We are delighted to announce that

Master Irish Silversmith Kevin O'Dwyer will return to MAGG!

Box Construction & Fabrication for Jewelers & Metalsmiths

    Saturday, March 28 - Friday, April 3, 2020

    9:30 am - 5:00 pm daily

Kevin will be with us for seven days.

Students will have THREE choices to participate:

    1)  a 2-day hinged locket workshop on Sat. and Sun., March 28th & 29th, OR

    2)  an in-depth 5-day box workshop, Mon. March 30th to Fri. April 3rd, OR

    3)  a more intense 7-day workshop to fabricate larger pieces,
         Sat. March 28th - Fri. April 3rd

    Kevin O'Dwyer

Kevin will focus on the endless possibilities and opportunities to create unique jewelry and hollowware using box fabrication metalsmithing techniques.  Students will have the opportunity to work on jewelry concepts including bracelets, rings, lockets and pendants or explore hollowware forms using the hydraulic press.  Forms may inclulde vessels, boxes, lockets or teapots.

The workshop will also include die forming, matrix embossing and confirming dies and how they can be used in your metalsmithing studio.  Students will have the opportunity to design and make a matrix die to create a hollowware form using the hydraulic press.  Components may also be used in jewelry fabrication.

Kevin will work with students from initial concept to a finished piece.  A combination of skill and technique-based demonstrations with one-to-one tutoring and problem solving will take place throughout the workshop.

Materials will depend upon what the student is making.

Kevin will aid the student's design process, but recommends doing some research, looking at contemporary and vintage boxes.  Crafting a model of your proposed project out of card stock will be helpful.  Your box can be hinged, or not.  Kevin will introduce a number of possibilities.  If you have an idea or dimensions in mind, you may email Kevin to ask about materials you may need.
