Tuesday Evening Beginner 2 & 3 Metalsmithing

8 Sessions, Tuesdays, 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Class Dates: 3/18, 3/25, 4/1, 4/8, 4/15, 4/22, 4/29, 5/6
Prerequisites: At least one (1) Beginner Metalsmithing Class at MAGG within the last 6 months, or permission of the instructor.

Building upon the skills that students have learned in the first beginning class, this class will focus on further developing and improving those skills. While working toward honing soldering and finishing skills, students will be introduced to a variety of stone setting applications.
Some of the stone setting techniques that will be covered are tube setting, flush setting, simple prong setting and bezels. We will also delve into step bezels and tab setting as time allows.
This is a fast paced, skills based class. Students are encouraged to design and create pieces of their choice. Demonstrations will be tailored to the student’s needs at the level that is appropriate for the class.
Techniques and skills that may be covered are: making rings, bracelets, earrings, simple mechanisms, hollow forms and chains. The instructor will focus on helping students advance their work through gentle critiques and hands on demonstrations.
