     Pop-Up:

    Mini Resin Workshop

    with Carla Pennie McBride

    November 16, 2019

    Saturday, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

This pop-up fun introduction to resin jewelry by renowned metalsmith Carla Pennie McBride.  Resin is an amazing material with endless possibilities.  Pennie will discuss her process and inspiration, show some of her resin work and demonstrate her resin process and finishing techniques.  Students are encouraged to bring a pre-fabricated bezel and materials for embedding in resin to make a piece.

This is a great way to dip your toes into resin work with one of the best artists in the country!  Organic and inorganic materials can be used for embedding in the resin.  This class is suited for brand new beginners and those with a little jewelry and resin experience.  The workshop is $100 with a materials fee of $10.

Learn more about Carl Pennie McBride

Carla Pennie uses a combination of both traditional and contemporary techniques to create one-of-a-kind jewelry from precious and non-precious materials.  For Carla, "the earth stirs the imagination."  Both a collector of natural artifacts and a keen observer of the natural world, she is inspired by the delicate hand of Mother Nature.

Carla Pennie incorporates methods of etching, drawing, fusing, inlay and granulation into her jewelry making.  She is stirred by the artist's hand in defining a distince path, one that is as unique as the movement of the stars.  Her most recent work includes the ancient technique of scrimshaw: scoring into material with a fine instrument then laying down inks into the scored lines.  She uses a variety of traditional and non-traditional materials such as fossilized ivory, bone, resin and nut when using scrimshaw technique in her own work.
