    2 Day VIRTUAL Workshop

    Kiln Fired Enameling Techniques

    with Annie Grimes Williams

    Saturday - Sunday

    February 5th-6th 2022, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm daily

*SIGN UP BY 1/17/2022 to get Early-Bird Special!

If you wish to take this workshop but don't have a kiln at home, register for this workshop and the MAGG open studio event. Bench space is limited, so sign up soon!

    Class Description

Learn how to add dynamic color and texture to your metalwork using kiln-fired vitreous enamel! This workshop will cover the basics of how to clean and prep your metal pieces, how to apply opaque powdered enamels using sifting techniques, and how to build up layers using sgraffito, gradients, stencils, and more to add fabulous textures to your work. We will focus on making sample pieces on copper so that you can explore the different techniques discussed without the pressure of designing finished pieces. We'll talk tips, tricks, and troubleshooting, and get you on your way to incorporating beautiful colorful enamel into your own work.

As a special bonus, Annie will demonstrate her technique of adding color to liquid-form white enamel by  kiln and torch firing.

This workshop is designed for beginner to intermediate enamellists. We will not be covering metalsmithing techniques in this workshop, so students should come with at least 10 copper blanks ready to enamel. Students without metalsmithing experience can order copper blanks to use for their samples rather than making their own.
