Class Description:
Cross the threshold of your curiosity about making jewelry and join instructor Rian Archer for Intro to Jewelry, Sunday afternoons in July.
This 3-week course is designed to expose new students to jewelry and metalsmithing through a single project (EARRINGS) with variations available to suit students' needs. The instructor will create a safe and reassuring space for all students to try something new and explore your creative side. Students will also become acquainted with the MAGG studio, tools, and safety practices.
While this short and sweet class is not a comprehensive beginner metalsmithing class, the goal is to have fun, experience the magic of metalsmithing, and walk away with a finished pair of earrings (or two) at the end of the course. As usual, all tools are provided in our exceptional studio. Information about materials TBA.
This class is suitable for:
- Those who have never taken a jewelry class before and are curious if metalsmithing is a creative practice you'd like to explore
- Those who have taken some jewelry classes and would like to focus on a specific beginner-friendly project in a condensed time frame
Some of the skills covered:
Forming wire with pliers
Hammering (texture)
Sanding, filing, measuring
Annealing, soldering, pickling
Making earring posts and earring wires
Tumbling and finishing
This weekly class meets IN-PERSON at the Metal Arts Guild of Georgia. Please plan to arrive no earlier than 15 minutes prior to class.
