Class Description:
Cross the threshold of your curiosity about making jewelry and join instructor Rian Archer for Intro to Jewelry, Sunday afternoons in July.
This 3-week course is designed to expose new students to jewelry and metalsmithing through a single project with variations available to suit students' needs. The instructor will create a safe and reassuring space for all students to try something new and explore your creative side. Students will also become acquainted with the MAGG studio, tools, and safety practices.
This class requires no previous jewelry making experience. Students who wish to review the basics are also welcome to attend. Join us this July to have fun, experience the magic of metalsmithing, and walk away with a finished project (or two) at the end of the course. All tools are provided in our exceptional studio, and project materials are included in the price of this course.
Some of the skills covered:
- Forming wire with pliers
- Hammering (texture)
- Sanding, filing, measuring
- Annealing, soldering, pickling
- Tumbling and finishing
This weekly class meets IN-PERSON at the Metal Arts Guild of Georgia. Please plan to arrive no earlier than 15 minutes prior to class.

Prerequisites: None.
Rian is best known as the Office/Studio Manager of the Metal Arts Guild of Georgia office and studio. He has been making jewelry since he was a small child, but began learning silversmithing skills in community art classes, now continuing to learn and create in his home studio. Rian is an apprentice at MASS collective, studying both woodworking and larger-scale metalworking, welding, and blacksmithing. Rian is also a photographer, and an airshifter on community radio.
